Nobody wants to sign up for your newsletter. Here's what to call it instead.
Sep 15, 2026
A bet I'm fairly confident I'll win
I'm going to guess that around 80% of businesses reading this are using the word 'newsletter' somewhere on their website.
"Sign up for our newsletter."
"Subscribe to our monthly newsletter."
"Join our newsletter list."
Here's the problem.
Nobody wants another newsletter in their inbox. The word itself signals obligation, not value.
The question to ask first
Before we get to the name - what are you actually offering someone when they sign up?
Real stories? Insider strategy? Tools and resources that save them time? Something they genuinely look forward to reading?
Because the name should reflect the value, not describe the format.
'Newsletter' describes how you're delivering it. It says nothing about what's in it.
What to call it instead
- The Playbook - strategy and frameworks
- The Inner Circle - community and insider access
- The Vitals - health and wellness
- The Nourish Notes - food and nutrition
- The Property Pulse - real estate
- Plain English - legal or finance
- No Manual - parenting
- The Chaos Chronicles - for anyone who appreciates honesty
Why this matters more than you might think
Same content. Completely different energy. Completely different sign-up rate.
The name signals whether this is worth their email address before they've read a single word.
What are you calling yours right now? Drop it in the comments - I'll tell you honestly if it's working.
