Trivia Happens
Sep 02, 2026
A case study worth sharing
Ryan came to me wanting to get his business off the ground and unsure where to start.
After looking at what he was building, the answer surprised him.
He didn't need ads. He didn't need a lead magnet. He needed to get much clearer on his messaging.
Specifically, he needed to stop describing what he does and start speaking directly to the problem his audience is losing sleep over.
The four-step framework
- Step 1: Identify the burning problem in your audience's own words - not the way you'd describe it, the way they would
- Step 2: Go and verify it. Read forums, Facebook groups, Reddit. Find the exact language they use when they talk about the problem
- Step 3: Lead with that problem on your homepage, above the fold, before anything else
- Step 4: Make an offer that's hard to say no to - one that accounts for the time it takes to build trust and momentum
Ryan's before and after
Ryan runs Trivia Happens - a hosted trivia night business that sells to venues.
Before: "I run trivia nights, contact us for more info."
After: "Turn your quiet midweek night into a night people come back for."
He found the venue's real problem - empty midweek nights - and led with it directly.
His offer: 6 weeks at 50% off. Because he knows once trivia night gets sticky, venues don't let it go.
The question to ask yourself this week
Do you know the one burning problem your audience would use to describe themselves right now?
Not your interpretation of their problem. Their words.
Go and find a forum or Facebook group in your niche. Read what people are saying. You may find your next headline is already written for you.
