$1,300 on Google ads. Not one lead. Here's the three-part diagnosis.

A situation I see more than you'd think

A business came to me after spending over $1,300 on Google ads for the very first time.

Zero contact form submissions. Zero leads. Just silence.

The frustrating thing? The fix wasn't complicated. And it didn't require more budget.

It required three things that should have been in place before the first dollar was spent.

Problem 1: Ads pointing to a homepage

Their ads were sending traffic to the homepage.

A homepage is designed for everyone. Which means it's designed for no one.

When someone clicks an ad, they arrive with a specific intent. If the page doesn't immediately match that intent, they leave. Usually within 3 seconds.

Every ad needs a dedicated landing page that speaks directly to the person who clicked it.

Problem 2: No clear audience on the page

The homepage didn't call out a specific audience. It described what the business did in general terms.

Your audience needs to land on a page and think 'this is for me' within seconds.

If they have to work to figure out whether you're relevant to them, you've already lost them.

Problem 3: The contact form was hidden

The contact form wasn't on the landing page at all. It was on a separate page accessible via a small link in the top right navigation menu.

Please don't assume your audience will go looking for how to contact you.

Make the action you want them to take impossible to miss.

The formula that actually works

  •     Targeted ad that speaks to one specific audience and one specific problem
  •     Dedicated landing page that continues the conversation from the ad
  •     Multiple clear CTAs throughout the page - not one buried at the bottom

 

The ads weren't the problem. The infrastructure around them was.

Before you spend another dollar on traffic - make sure you have somewhere worth sending it.
