Do you know your conversion rate? Only two students could answer...
Aug 24, 2026
An uncomfortable moment
I was speaking to a room of business owners when I asked a simple question.
"How many of you know your current conversion rate?"
Two hands went up.
Not two percent. Two people.
In a room full of business owners spending time and money on marketing every single week.
Why this matters more than any other metric
If you are spending resources - time or money - sending people to your website, you owe it to yourself and your team to know what happens when they get there.
The formula is simple:
- Number of people who visit your site in a given period
- Divided by the number of leads or enquiries you receive
- Multiply by 100 = your conversion rate
100 visitors, 3 leads = 3% conversion rate.
Once you know the number, you can improve it. You can't improve what you're not measuring.
Here's where it gets interesting
Out of 100 website visitors, the typical business converts 1-5 on a direct call to action.
But a business with a well-positioned lead magnet? Up to 30-75 of those same 100 visitors will convert into leads.
Same traffic. Completely different result. One extra step between your ad and your ask.
The action to take today
Pull up your website analytics. Find your traffic number for last month. Find your lead or enquiry number for the same period. Do the maths.
Do you know yours? Drop it in the comments - genuinely curious how many people reading this have actually checked.
